Over The Sea To Honolulu
A classic footage around 1950’s of Honolulu, Hawai’i (NewsReel).
The footage starts of in San Francisco on a cruise liner and as it voyage to Hawai’i it shows the passenger having a great time, then the famous landmark (Diamond Head) appear in the scene, as it enters the harbor it is greeted by the Hawaiian’s in their traditional Hawaiian boats or canoes and recreational sailing boats.
As the ship docks it is greeted by the Hawaiian in their traditional outfits with flower necklaces. Then the Aloha Tower appear in the scene as well as downtown Honolulu probably on Bishop street, then the King Kamehameha statue appears. On the building you see the American flag, but not the Hawaiian state flag that you would see today along with the American flag. Buses powered by electric also is seen.
Waikiki beach looks unmolested by hotel buildings that you normally see today, the place at that time makes Waikiki to be at the peak of the moment. Tourist are then shown in restaurant having a great time then into the waters of Waikiki canoeing into the waves. Local surfers displaying their talent.
Surfers then look a little “stiff” in comparison to today’s international surfers, then they simply just stand on this heavy surfboard and ride the waves standing as straight as a needle.
After the surfing scene you see Locals entertaining the tourist with dances and music, then Local women making flower necklaces. The footage near the end shows the tourist sailing away throwing back the flower necklaces into the ocean as they say Aloha to an extraordinary experience they call Paradise.
